The
WEST coast of Lefkas offers miles of some of the most beautiful
abandoned sandy beaches you will ever see, even in the middle
of the summer season - something that you really shouldn't
miss. The beaches are spectacular and are generally sandy
with clear water, backed by cliffs. Simple joys, like swimming
in crystal clear water, sunbathing under a nice hot sun, suits
grown-ups as well as children. Kalamitsi is situated right
in the middle of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, Egemnoi,
Porto Katsiki, Gialos, Kalamitsi beach, Kathisma, Milos and
Pefkoulia. They all are breathtaking with their turquoise
sea and white sand. |

| Kalamitsi
(The Village)
Originally built out of the reach of pirates, has a most definitely
Greek feel to it. What makes this village immediately interesting
is the beautiful stone houses which almost sink into the surrounding
groves of almond and olive trees.
The village has cafenios (locar bars), mini markets, and a
few places to eat called tavernas. Don't miss the opportunity
to get out of your studio and sample some of the local traditional
grill and fish tavernas.

Lefkas
town is only 20 km (12,4miles) away, is also known as Lefkada.
This is the capital town of the island. It’s a busy
little working town, full of little alleyways and side streets.
It is best visited for shopping in the morning or evening
during the hot months.
|
|
 |
 |
The main pedestrian street is full of little shops selling
everything from fresh fish to ladders and postcards. Siesta
time is 13.30 - 17.30. There is a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere
in the local bars and coffee shops, and very good nightlife.
Nightclubs, are not as sophisticated as those in the major
European resorts, but they are friendly and informal.

Walking.
A very popular activity on Lefkas. The Island is beautiful
and green, with a great variety of scenery, and is becoming
increasingly popular with walking clubs.
The island of Lefkas is a perfect destination for walkers.
Numerous little tracks take you all over the island. You
will experience the peacefulness of the mountains and the
impressive views of the coastline. Goats and sheep will
cross your path and their shepherds will be curious to know
whom you are and where you are going.

 |
Walking
will take you to places you would not easily find by car and
it will show you the secret beauties of Lefkas. An experience
not to be missed!
Friendly villagers will welcome you with interest and curiosity.
Furthermore you can expect ruins of abandoned villages and
ancient monasteries. And beautiful little churches in peaceful
spots.
Many of the tracks have not been used for years; they are
the original tracks the locals used to follow, to get from
one village to the next. |

Fantastico Studios in Kalamitsi on the island of Lefkada Greece |
The
studios
The studios are situated in the most pictures village, Kalamitsi,
on the beautiful WEST coast of the Ionian island Lefkas. “Fantastico”
offers a tranquil environment with life being in tune with
nature. Each of our spacey studios has a balcony with fantastic
sea view, a private bathroom and hot water running through-out
the day. We have also installed a fridge, a small kitchen,
a satellite TV, and air-conditioning. They are situated just
by the village, by the edge of a cliff, next to a small forest
with adequate parking space. There is also a garden with a
fully equipped common kitchen and a barbeque which are ready
to accommodate any of your cooking needs.

Wine. The local brew is called Vertzamo,
both red and white, and it's really very good! So good,
in fact, that very little of it manages to get off the
Island Buses.
Run from Lefkada Town to most parts of the Island. Services
down the East coast are generally quite good during
the holiday season, but to more remote areas there may
be only one bus per day. There are very few buses during
the middle of the afternoon (14.00 - 17.00). The best
way to really see Lefkas is by car. The roads have been
greatly improved the last few years and it is now possible
to get to most of the best places in a standard car
- although you will still have to get used to hairpins!

Dolphins.
Yes! We have them! They are friendly, and often appear alongside
boats on the coast. They are seen most frequently in spring
and late summer.
Towards
the end of the summer you will see lots of the locals out
selling freshly produced thyme honey and wine from roadside
stalls. Totally organic and an excellent souvenir. Summer
is festival season when the focus is mainly religious, but
definitely not puritanical! These ‘panigiria’
celebrate the saints’ name days with copious amounts
of food and drink, music and dancing.
